Introduction

Spotting Scopes are designed for terrestrial viewing when the power of a binoculars is not strong enough. Bird watchers, nature lovers, etc. can select from an assortment that fills different needs. All have coated optics. The addition of an adapter tube and T-mount lets them be used with cameras (See accessories). All come complete with tripod and a Limited Lifetime Warranty. The numbers refer to zoom magnification and speed of the lens. For example "15X-45X" means the lens zooms from a fifteen time magnification to a forty five time magnification. "50mm" means the width of the objective lens is fifty millimeters.
Please note: Terrestrial (commonly called "spotting) and astronomical telescopes are designed for different purposes. Astronomical telescopes are used at night, often to see very faint stars. Thus they require a larger objective lens than a terrestrial telescopes, which is generally used during daylight hours. This can result in unnecessary cost. Astronomical telescopes require more powerful lenses because they are used to observe things many light years away. This results in a very narrow angle of view. It is almost impossible to follow a moving bird or animal with a 1000X scope. Terrestrial telescopes are used for much shorter range and require a much wide angle of view. Perhaps most important, astronomical telescope produce an inverted image which is unsuitable for nature watching. However, an astronomical telescope can be easily converted to a terrestrial one by adding a redirect.
